Change Log

20000326 - PHB

Fixed section B so all email addresses point to the new
  listserv machine.

B.4 - updated the list sysops section

B.5 - added a "don't post HTML or MIME" to the netiquette
        section.

20000317 - PHB

Ran a link checker on the FAQ. Changes were then made to the
  following sections:
F.5 - corrected link to eudora's home page
E.6 - deleted reference to sdesign, who don't appear
          to exist at the moment.
    R.6 and Q.7 - replaced a "moved" link with a general link
to "support.novell.com". Novell seem to reorganize
their site every few weeks, specific links don't
          stay valid for long.
G.12 - deleted the section, since the link to the product
           is dead.
    H.2 - fixed link to www.nmrc.org

Note - I only checked http: links, as I am behind a firewall
and my link checker doesn't do passive ftp. If anyone
with more direct access wants to check the ftp links
and mail me the results, it would be appreciated.
There are also some links I didn't fix, maybe next
         version :)

C.5 *NEW* Recommended books section. My goal is to consolidate
all book recommendations in one place, i.e. I've removed
references to books from the following sections:
           E.8 - deleted whole section

I'll be expanding this section soon.

C.6 renamed old section C.10 "WWW links"

E.3.1 deleted reference to manuals for dead products

  G.11 fixed link for PCounter

H.8 *NEW* HD versus FD ethernet section

H.57 deleted section on Y2K patches. If you haven't done
       this by now...

Q.3 deleted obvious suggestion to download Client 32

R.7 "Joe D's .NCF files". moved from C.9.* to the
      historical section.

R.8 "formatting floppies /w boot ROMs" moved from H.9
      to the historical section.

R.9 "why can't I run 2 IP stacks on a client" moved from
      E.4 to the historical section.

R.10 "using EMM386 with Boot ROM" moved from H.47 to
      historical section.

  R.11 "H.49 Windows 3.x BSOD" moved from H.49 to
      historical section.

P.6 *NEW* NMI error <--- MUST ADD MORE DETAIL HERE!!!!!

Renamed the following files, which had nasty characters that
don't play nicely on some environments:

  nvfaq-!.txt - renamed to h-o-fame.htm
  nvfaq-s!.txt - renamed to msc-fame.txt
  w95&saps.txt - renamed to w95_saps.txt

Re-organized the links on the main page. Deleted the following
  dead mirrors:
    http://kawnug.oznet.ksu.edu/novell/faq/nov-faq.htm
    http://amelia.db.erau.edu/novell/faq/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.meirion-dwyfor.ac.uk/uccuwww/novell.faq
    http://www2.meirion-dwyfor.ac.uk/uccuwww/novell.faq
    http://www.ua.pt/novell/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.nugsa.org.za/novell/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.coppe.ufrj.br/novell-faq/nov-faq.htm

    http://novell.pc.wa.edu.au/nov-faq.htm
    http://rc.service.rug.nl/~cat/faq/nov-faq.htm

The following sites have mirrors of older versions of the FAQ.
I deleted their links as well.
    http://www.salford.ac.uk/ais/Network/novell/nov-faq.htm
    http://mft.ucs.ed.ac.uk/novell/faq/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.dfm.dtu.dk/netware/faq/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.petena.se/support/novfaq/nov-faq.htm
    http://www.micro.org/novell/faq/nov-faq.htm

  Fixed a few minor typos.

20000111 - PHB

  C. renamed section to "Pointer to other resources"

C.1 replaced the "how to use ftp" lesson with a pointer
to the Novell user group section of the Novell web site.

C.4.* These sections contained a list of the latest files
C.5 for older versions of NW. This info is several patches
(and OS versions) obsolete. Given the ferocious rate of
new patches, I feel it is hopeless to try and keep this
current, so I have dropped these sections.

  C.4 I moved the single section D entry (Novell's phone #s)
        to section C.4

D.* Section D now deals with NetWare security and password
        issues.

D.1 *NEW* section on misc. security info

D.2 moved section H.14 to a more appropriate spot, and
        updated info about LASTHOPE.NLM

D.3 *NEW* What to do if you've lost your ADMIN password.

D.4 *NEW* What to do if you've deleted your ADMIN account

  H.6 updated to reflect NW2.x and 4.x.

H.17 deleted section with very stale pointers to NIC vendors'
driver archives. Maintaining this would be a full time
job, and provide limited benefit, so I've dumped it.

H.34 fixed formatting so that the information in the table
       was more legible

Q.1 *NEW* section on pros/cons of the various Win95 NW clients

  Q.8 deleted collection of stale/dead Win95 links

  R. this has become the historical section. I have "archived"
the following entries from the old FAQ...

       I.2 sample STARTNET.BAT (NETX)
       I.3 sample STARTNET.BAT (VLMs)
I.4.* general DOS requestor tuning (memory, performance, etc.)
       I.5 sample AUTOEXEC.NCF (VLMs)
       Q.1 net booting Win95 /w VLMs
       Q.12 VLMs with Windows 95

S.86 deleted discussion about various betas of NW5.0

trimmed 2BEADDED.TXT as I added that info to the FAQ.

deleted NOV-W98.TXT (it only had info about the W98 beta)

changes pointers in all of the .TXT files to current FAQ maintainer

19991217 - PHB

  This changelog was introduced.

All FAQ maintainer info now (hopefully!) points to Peter Burtt
  (phb@nbnet.nb.ca)

Various cosmetic changes to index page.

A.2 gutted the redundant list of mirrors, pointed to the list on the
      index page.

B.5 updated to reflect current state of ~3000 list members

B.7 deleted reference to an HTML archive of the FAQ that seems to
be about 1 year dead. Added pointer to Joe D's searchable list
archives, and the FAQ search tool.

C.4.4.1 deleted dead link pointing to "a list of most current NLMs".

C.6 deleted dead link pointing to Novell patches & upgrades

C.10 added a section with (hopefully) useful links. I hope to
       expand this soon...

H.8 deleted section about NT requestor

  H.10.1.2 updated section on UIMPORT

  H.10.1.4 *NEW* section on BULKLOAD.NLM

H.49 updated to specify Win 3.x i.e. most people associate BSOD
with WinNT. (wonder why? :) )

  M. replaced the rather obsolete CNE section with a pointer to
      the Novell Education website.

N.7 *NEW* section on CDROMs - save fuss by just copying to HD.

  R. deleted the section on text editors. This section hadn't been
touched in years, and everyone already has an opinion.
