Netware 6 server recovery question/advise needed.

Ahh ... One step closer ...

- ran nssmu
- select raid devices
- select the correct device/controller
- next screen I see the "raid segment" and one of the drive is
"off-line". Option available here is to "remove segment from raid".

I guess once it is removed, I can add the new drive back the same way ?

Thanks

@Rick,
I take it that you meant "if you remove the old drive then look at
mirror status ...break original mirror..."

The problem is I can't find that mirror status anywhere (except for that
console message scrolling).
NRM show me that 100% mirroring with 1 drive in the system.

@Randy,
Thanks for the tip.
I Just need to figure out how to do this right.
It has been a long time so be patience with me.

Thanks

Correct. And take notes on the device number before the actual mirror
process. I've done quite a few of these but measure twice, cut once!

if you remove the new drive then look at mirror status...you should be
able to break the original mirror..once it has been severed..you should
then be able to put the new drive in and re-establish the mirroring.

Hum.....
I think that article applies to earlier version of netware (pre NSS day)
but I can be wrong here.
Load install has been replaced by nwconfig.
Nwconfig --> nss disk options has been replaced by nssmu / console1 /
NRM

NRM shows me something I don't understand saying mirror 100%
See pics here:

Console1 - I can't figure it out how

Nssmu - is probably my best hope to do this right.
I'm thinking these steps:

- load nssmu
- select devices (go to new device)
- initialize it
- select raid devices
- select sys partition
- hit f3 to open the mirror
- select the new device.

Any comments?.

Ps: I'll probably set a quick test server to do this because I got 1
shot of making it right.
Don't want to mirror the blank to sys.

Thanks
Daniel

The server (Proliant) has dual channel Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI.
Each drive on each channel.
No hardware raid on these boot drives.
I'm just using netware mirroring feature.
BTW, SYS is an NSS not traditional

Thanks

are you using hardware raid to mirror these drives?

Hi,
I have an old NW 6 server.
The system has 2 hard disks for booting up to DOS (c: and d: ) DOS
partitions are identical.
SYS is also on those disks and they are mirrored.

Few days ago, the primary disk failed completely.
I was able to boot of to the secondary and bring up the system normally
and getting "The mirrored objects on this system are not all
synchronized" message as expected.

Now I have a replacement disk.
I've created DOS partition and xcopy everything to it.

Question:

- I'm to put the new one in the system.
- I'm going to continue to boot up with the secondary drive
- How do I go about re-mirroring the SYS partition? Will it be done
automatically or do I have to do via NRM or ConsoleOne?.
This is the part I am unsure about.

- If it will not be re-mirror automatically, do I have to create a new
pool/new partition/new volumes on the replacement drive and start a
re-mirror process manually.

Thanks for your help

Daniel
